Colorful Baby Idli

These Idlis are so cute and soft, my kids just love them. These Idlis are prepared with the same dosa/ Idli batter. I give this to them for lunch in school and their friends ask me about these idlis, kids are attracted by color and shapes. Whenever I throw any party this is my second choice for starters, it is easy to make and contains little oil. All my friends like it very much. When I was in Delhi I used to make it frequently.

22-25 small idlis

Ingredients

3 cups of  idli /dosabatter ( have posted)
One small onion chopped lengthwise
1 tsp mustard seeds
Few curry leaves
1 tsp oil
A generous pinch of food color (I used green, yellow, red)
Salt to taste
Procedure
Take 3 cups of batter in 3 different bowls and add food color and salt. Mix everything well.  Grease the idli tray as this one and pour the batter with a small spoon/tea spoon.

Place this in the Idli Cooker or pressure cooker. I made it in the pressure cooker and took out the whistle and let it steam for 5-7 minutes or until it’s done.
As the Idlis are small they cook in 5-7 mins. Check if ready with fork or toothpick. Take care while opening the lid as there is hot steam inside.
Remove when done and cool for 2 minutes and remove each idli with a spoon or knife.
Now take a small pan and add oil. Then add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and chopped onions. Fry this onion until golden brown. Now add cooked idlis.
Give a nice stir.  Now your baby idlis are ready.
Enjoy this dish as breakfast, Brunch or evening snack.

Note
If  want you can avoid tempering. You can serve it with sauce and chutney.
