Dates and Tamarind Chutney Recipe / Khajur Imli Chutney


Khajur imli ki chutney is a sweet and sour tangy chutney made from dates, tamarind and jaggery.

Ingredients

6-7   red dates (soaked in water for 2 hours)
100 gm jaggery
200 gm tamarind
A pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
2 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp roasted cumin powder
1 tsp dry ginger powder
2 tsp black salt
Salt

Procedure

Dry roast cumin seed till a nice aroma comes, and then grind it to a fine powder.
Grind dates to a smooth paste.
Soak imli in 2 cups of water for two hours. Imli softens very fast. Now filter imli by keeping it in a steel strainer and keep the pulp. Now add jaggery and one cup of water to this pulp. Now place it on the flame and cook. When the jaggery will be completely dissolved, add the date mixture. Allow it to boil then add red chili powder, black salt, ginger powder, hing, plain salt.



Once it becomes saucy add roasted cumin powder and give another boil till the chutney becomes thick of sauce consistency. Switch off  the flame and store it in a clean container, refrigerate until use.
